Mill Plain Elementary School

Project Overview

The transformation of Mill Plain Elementary School represents a significant achievement in Vancouver’s educational infrastructure. With the demolition of the existing school in July of 2022, we paved the way for the construction of a brand-new facility. Designed as the final installment of LSW Architects’ esteemed “Prototype” projects, this school exemplifies a harmonious blend of modern design and innovative learning concepts.

The heart of the new school is its central commons area. Here, polished concrete floors and warm wood paneling create an inviting atmosphere conducive to collaboration and community engagement. Flexible learning spaces, including the central learning stair, facilitate dynamic teaching approaches tailored to the diverse needs of our students. Emphasizing the importance of outdoor learning and play, the exterior areas of the school are thoughtfully designed to connect students with nature. Salvaged logs, basalt benches, and a nature play area offer opportunities for exploration, physical activity, and imaginative discovery.
