Subcontractor Selection and Oversight

Robinson’s approach to issuing bid packages for construction projects involves dividing the project into smaller segments and soliciting bids for each segment. This approach improves project schedule by allowing items with long lead times to be purchased early. Benefits also include better project timeline management and improved quality control. However it can be difficult to evaluate the overall project budget until all bid packages have been completed. Our bid processing tools include:

  • Using our local knowledge in the area to contact experienced subcontractors who have previously partnered with Robinson.
  • Using SmartBid, a web-based software, to send electronic invitations to bid and distribute addenda.
  • Posting drawings on the Robinson website for ease of access for subcontractors.
  • Soliciting local plan centers to ensure subcontractors have printed drawings for review.
  • Providing the owner with the possibility of multiple bid packages, if necessary, to start the construction process sooner.
  • Providing in-house estimates on divisions 2 and 3 to make certain local pricing is competitive.
  • Contacting the subcontractors, ensuring completeness of bids and verifying subcontractor’s qualifications.

Once Robinson has studied and reviewed all of the bids, recommendations will be given to the district and the design team.
